Work on the planned transformation and rebrandingof Monte Carlo Resort and Casino into Park MGM is progressing smoothly, casino developer and operator MGM Resorts International has confirmed recently.
Launched in 1996, the Monte Carlo hotel and casino complex has been among the most popular gaming spots on the Las Vegas Strip. It was announced last year that the property will be rebranded and redesigned to include two hotels – Park MGM and NoMad Las Vegas.
Jim Murren, CEO and Chairman of MGM Resorts, said back then that the property’s rebranding was part of the casino company’s strategy to move on from the days when casinos had been named after other locations in different parts of the world. The executive told media that Las Vegas was in itself a top tourist hub and did not need properties that were themed after far-away places.
According to the latest updates on the project, renovation work is progressing smoothly and on schedule. MGM Resorts has partnered with New York-based hotel developer and manager Sydell Group. Among other properties, the latter company is known for its NoMad hotel chain.
It is namely the NoMad hotel experience that MGM Resorts and its partner will bring to the renovated Monte Carlo complex.
What Does the Renovation Involve?
The existing Monte Carlo resort will feature two hotels after its renovation is completed. The larger one – Park MGM – will have 2,700 rooms, and the NoMad Las Vegas will feature nearly 290 rooms.
Representatives for Sydell Group have said that they expect to have 90% of all rooms renovated by next week. Guests are already welcomed at overhauled rooms. After their facelift, the rooms now feature electric artwork, a picture window, and accent walls, among other things.
Developers have previously pointed out that the renovation aims to attract visitors from the younger generation who are known for better admiring modern aesthetics over excessive garishness.
Each of the hotels will also include their own dining facilities with unique offering for the Las Vegas Strip. For instance, NoMad Las Vegas will feature a NoMad restaurant operated by Swiss chef Daniel Humm.
The renovation of Monte Carlo is expected to be completed in 2018. MGM Resorts then plans to invest into the renovation of Excalibur and Luxor, two of its other Strip properties. While the company has committed to spending significant finances on modernizing the two properties, it is not likely to rebrand them as it did with Monte Carlo.
Internationally, MGM Resorts is looking to expand into Japan’s nascent casino market. The country legalized casino gambling late last year and is working on the second stage of building its casino industry. MGM Resorts has been among the major operators to have expressed interest in entering Japan due to the large potential analysts believe its market holds.
